What do you do if an interviewer asks about your photography process?

If asked in an interview about my photography process, I would answer the following. First of all, there is planning. Almost every photography session should begin with the plan which involves a visualization of what it is to be achieved like message, target, time and place, subject/object to give shape to the story. Second, take places the technical considerations like camera, lenses, DOF, shutter speed, ISO, light, colors and composition for each photo. Then, the actual shoot should be carefully executed, if possible, being patient and taking care of details. Finally, the post-production enables to us to take each image to the next level. Preparation and the delivery of the final product itself are also an important part of the process.

Discuss inspiration sources, planning methods, technical skills, editing software, and collaboration approaches, showcasing your unique creative process and problem-solving abilities.

Let me start with the fact that no client is interested in the photographic process, unless they are themselves photographers. What they are really asking is to be guided through what happens during a sitting, meaning what they can expect. Any portrait should have a portion of the personality of the subject. My goal is to understand who the person is, what is important to them, how they want to be seen, and who is their target audience. Next, it's necessary to know how they are going to use the portraits. Are they used for LinkedIn? For a speaking engagement? For a book jacket? Billboard? Next, what is the emotion that they want to elicit in the viewer? And so on. The process is at the service of the needed outcome.

It starts with the story the food has to say, and the mood it will convey. So a mood board discussing aesthetics, vision, light is essential. It will guide the choice of props, details, cropping of the image, angle of camera etc.

For your portfolio use pictures that you have an emotional connection with, pictures that'll make you smile, other than helping to ease the tension within it'll help you communicate creative concepts that would show your prowess. Pro tip: Use a picture that surprised you in a good way when you saw it after the shoot, for example you were having a bad day and the pictures still came out phenomenal, that's something noteworthy.

I love to do this when i’m asked about my process, show them a photo and start explaining what I did and how I did it and why I did it, and even what would be the result if I change something in the process.

For example, in one shoot, unexpected weather conditions threatened to derail the project. Instead of panicking, I improvised with lighting and composition to adapt to the situation, ultimately creating a unique and memorable image. This flexibility and problem-solving mindset are essential in my work, allowing me to overcome obstacles and deliver exceptional results.

Como fotógrafa, primero que nada explico mi proceso y de donde viene cada parte de ese mismo proceso. 1 - Investigo sobre quiénes serían mis clientes si hay tiempo. 2 - Pregunto sobre qué quieren hacer, si algo parecido a lo que tienen (si es el caso) o si desean algo completamente nuevo. 3 - Empiezo a trabajar con ideas basadas en mi experiencia y me involucro en el trabajo creativo desde mis conocimientos de la marca y de la fotografía.

It empowers me to precisely capture the essence I desire and effectively showcase the clothing, ultimately attracting the brands I aspire to collaborate with. Furthermore, engaging in conversations with fellow professionals about the intricacies of the process and imparting knowledge to aspiring photographers has ignited a profound passion within me for the photography community. While some aspects may present challenges, the ability to articulate my ideas clearly allows my genuine enthusiasm to shine through.

In post-processing, I meticulously enhance each image, applying color grading and subtle adjustments to bring out its essence.

Rather than getting lost in technical details, I focus on the artistic decisions that shape the narrative of each photograph. For example, I might enhance the mood by adjusting the contrast and shadows, or I might use selective cropping to draw attention to the main subject. Every edit is a deliberate choice aimed at elevating the emotional impact of the image. It's about capturing the essence of the moment and conveying it to the viewer in the most compelling way possible.

During the post-production process, my first step is to utilize Capture One. This software allows me to perform color grading on all of my work. Once I have achieved the desired color palette, I proceed to select images that truly resonate with me, taking into consideration their movement and design elements in order to create an overall captivating composition. I transfer the content to Photoshop, where I address any blemishes or unwanted details. It is worth noting that I refrain from excessively smoothing the skin, as my aim is to achieve a natural appearance. In fact, my editing skills are honed to the extent that the final result appears untouched, as if it had never been altered. This, I believe, is the key to a successful edit.

In the preparation of the photoshoots, I meticulously plan every detail, from the selection of locations to the coordination of equipment and transportation logistics. Efficient time management is paramount, ensuring that every moment is made the most of it. When dealing with clients or models, I establish clear and empathetic communication, understanding their needs and ensuring a collaborative and professional environment. I anticipate possible setbacks and prepare alternative solutions to maintain the fluidity of the process. Thus, in addition to artistic expression, organization and professionalism ensure excellence and satisfaction in each photographic project.

Initially, my focus was solely on capturing the perfect shot with a stunning model in a bikini. However, I have come to realize that true photographic excellence is not defined by one's ability to photograph attractive women in swimwear. Instead, it lies in the skillful incorporation of design principles and the mastery of color theory. By narrowing my specialization to fashion photography and minimizing my involvement in swimwear shoots, I have witnessed a remarkable transformation in the quality of my work. Nevertheless, residing in Miami means that swimwear photography remains prevalent, and I still cover Miami Swim Week. Nonetheless, I consider New York Fashion Week to be the pinnacle of my professional development.

Don't give it all away! You might look better if your craft has some secrets! Focus on just the subject being considered, not related skills
