Normally, I love to see a chronological resume as I feel that format helps to tell your personal story in a way that's easily digestible for the reader. If a hiring manager has issues reading your resume, you're behind already. All of this said, if your contracts are several really short stints, I would recommend splitting your resume into sections of "Work Experience" and "Contracting Experience" that way, the short stints still have descriptions, but they don't make the resume hard to read or incredibly lengthy. Maybe even have a separate resume with all contract experience detailed out for roles that it would be relevant. Every resume you submit to a job should be tailored to that job - period.
