Access is an important aspect of course development. We attempted to tackle this at an online unit of a 4-year public that served a predominantly underserved population. We realized that many of the bells and whistles that were part of courses served as barriers to access. We systematically reviewed courses to make sure that information was available in multiple formats and supported low tech access as much as possible. In the end we realized this is a process not a destination. We (Faculty, Instructional Designers, Developers) need to constantly be working to improve the effectiveness and access of student learning. We are never done making access better.
