What do you do if conflict arises in the manufacturing sector and you're a conflict resolution specialist?

The first step is to listen to all parties involved in the conflict. Each person may have their perspective, concerns, and grievances. Active listening helps in understanding the root causes of the conflict. Once the conflict is clearly understood, I will work to identify the underlying issues causing the conflict. This may involve analyzing communication breakdowns, differences in goals or expectations, resource allocation problems, or interpersonal conflicts. Instead of imposing solutions, I encourage collaborative problem-solving. By involving all stakeholders in brainstorming solutions, we can find creative ways to address the conflict that meets everyone's needs to the extent possible.

The primary duty is to find out the source of the conflict. When this is done, you analyse the conflict in terms of it's impact on the company. Your methodology should be as flexible as possible in order to have a robust conflict resolution mechanism.

I would like to initiate the development of an analysis plan (process map) to systematically gather information on the context and issues at hand. This plan will encompass the identification of causes, drivers, and triggers, as well as an analysis of conflict dynamics, trends, and potential scenarios. Additionally, it will outline the roles, responsibilities, needs, and relationships of all parties involved. By having this plan in place, we can facilitate transparent information sharing and enhance the engagement process with all stakeholders.

Manufacturing and specially during production process we must keep sure that safety regulations on the top of the list and we must build a cultural of how to manage conflicts while working with different teams or workers.

As a conflict resolution specialist, I would first try to understand the root cause of the conflict. Then, I would facilitate open communication between the parties involved to find a mutually agreeable solution. It's all about finding common ground and working towards a win-win outcome.

I prefer using the Six Sigma methodology initially especially in a manufacturing environment. Why? There are numerous successful case studies in manufacturing which attest to the validity of the process. Six Sigma was developed to produce zero defects and to improve productivity. I suggest that Six Sigma and facilitative mediation work hand in glove to address this scenario. The process addresses all of the recommendations in the Open Dialogue introduction. Can you be successful with only one process? Yes! I suggest building a more powerful approach using the best aspects of these two proven approaches.

Discussion on the issue involving key persons of interest is the best resolving technique, but the discussion should be constrictive and positive. In the conflict situations I have tried to get most of the most from the discussion on the root cause of the issue. Communication is the best tool to resolve conflict giving a space to almost each person affected.

I believe, initially, it is more helpful to talk to each side separately. This helps to remove the side from the conflicting energy already present between the participants. Once each side has been listened, they also need to write down their perspective on the conflict, which then I as a mediator will edit to remove the emotional aspect from the writing. I will then share the writings with all sides, and ask them to come up with their version of a solution, keeping in mond the interests of the company, which is closely tied to their own interests. This is when we will come together to share our versions of solutions. This meeting will be a meeting where we collaborate to find a solution to a problem, rather than solve a conflict.

I would facilitate constructive dialogue between the parties involved, creating a safe space for them to express their concerns and perspectives.

In my experience, having open dialogue is the first right step. before a conflict can be resolved. There must be a willingness to have a conversation about what the opportunities are and the possibilities can be.

Of course, test and trial balloon potential solutions. A key check point is to discuss the potential solution with the buyers, namely the economic, user and technical buyers and your coaches. Cross reference your findings with your customer base. Consult with your customers before implementing a potential cure. Finally, make sure that the economic, personal and unmet needs of all of the above actors are quantifiably met. Measurement must be present within every step of the processes. Six Sigma requires this point. ADR facilitation can include measurement as well.

If necessary, I would act as a neutral mediator to facilitate negotiations and help the parties reach a mutually acceptable solution.

I’ve found involving or even requiring both parties to find the solution together allows them buy-in gives them ownership and builds a more positive work environment.

An example of exploring opportunities is best illustrated when the participants of the conflict get a chance to talk about their interests, perspectives, and desires. Alignment is necessary to maximize the best alternative to a negotiated agreement between the parties.

I would recommend implementing mechanisms for continuous improvement and proactive conflict prevention within the organization. This might include training programs, regular feedback channels, and fostering a culture of transparency and collaboration.

would follow up with the parties involved to ensure that the agreed-upon solutions are implemented effectively and monitor the situation to prevent any recurrence of the conflict. Additionally, providing support and guidance to build better communication and conflict management skills within the organization is crucial for long-term success.

I have had the experience to settle many very diversified conflicts. Person to person as well as corporate to corporate. In certain cases, issues were between government and corporates. My overall comment on this "Conflict Resolution is either win-win or loss-loss for both parties". Trying to resolve an issue where one's gain is at the cost of other's loss is a vane attempt. In such a situation, the party at loss creates a stalemate situation. At start, resolution can easily be done in win-win situation. But with the passage of time, solution first falls down to parity situation, where no one gains and loses; if still left unsolved, it consequently ends as loss-loss. Sooner both parties start talking, better would be resolution.

I have always been fortunate to learn from escalations around me from my lovely customers. First things to be considered is open mindset while assessing an escalation or expectation mismatch in a business scenario, practicing empathy, with dissatisfied stakeholders helps in understanding the conflict and reaching to a win-win solution. Stay honest with the stakeholders so that no further damage is done to the situation and stay positive about reaching an agreeable solution in any scenario of conflict. Most of my escalations are resolved by practicing above and I am also able to support my colleagues in reaching an agreement with heated stakeholders. Always treat concerns as temporary and work with a long term view of relationships.

One useful approach during the exploration of solutions is to allow conflicting parties the opportunity to suggest possible resolutions. This inclusive method ensures their suggestions are considered, making them feel integral to the solution process rather than simply imposed upon. Utilizing a participatory approach to reach consensus is highly recommended.

In my experience we can all be guilty of lacking empathy when a situation illicits a strong emotional response. Encouraging people in conflict to consider the other person's perspective can dissolve a situation very quickly by an effective, non-judgemental mediator.

Being a HR person, Need to get in to one to one interaction with the team. Listen, consider, communication all the patameters to resolve the conflict.
