These methods employ optimization or inference techniques such as expectation-maximization or Bayesian inference to align the model with the data. Subspace methods not only address the dimensionality challenge but also unveil relationships between features and clusters, offering diverse perspectives for data exploration. While subspace methods can be grounded in various clustering algorithms, their implementation and interpretation tend to be more complex and challenging compared to approaches that consider the entire feature space.

Spectral methods leverage eigenvalues and eigenvectors from a similarity matrix (like the adjacency or Laplacian matrix) to transform data into a lower-dimensional space for more efficient clustering. These methods excel in capturing the global structure and geometry of data, accommodating non-linear and non-convex clusters. However, their efficacy may hinge on the chosen similarity measure and parameters, and they might not scale effectively with large datasets.
