Measuring event impact is similar to the investigative work done in the event industry. . It's about figuring out the ripple effect of your event – what changes, what improvements, what buzz it creates . It's all about measuring the results, such as the increase in social media chat or the number of smiles on people's faces. On the other hand, evaluation is the judge at the event court. It's about assessing the overall success and effectiveness of the event

I think terminology in this space is particularly important. For me there are five levels. Firstly, available resources to put towards the event. Secondly, actions taken to deliver the event. Thirdly, outputs such as attendance, satisfaction and like research measures. Fourthly, outcomes such as friendships formed, groups joined, people inspired to change their life, and lastly, wellbeing. A measure that is important to have top of mind as its important to gauge exactly which outcomes impact upon an individual's wellbeing.

Event impact measurement is super important because they give us insight into how well our events are doing in reaching their goals, whether it's raising money, getting our name or connecting with the community. When we look at how many people showed up, how much money we raised, what people are saying, and all that good stuff, it helps us see the big picture. But I think most important than all those numbers is how people feel after they've been to our event. Sure, hitting our targets is great, but what really matters is if we've managed to inspire someone. The emotional impact stick around long after the event's over, keeping the momentum going and the support rolling in. So it's the thing that truly makes events special and memorable.

Here there are two broad areas to value. Firstly, financial metrics such as profit and loss and economic impact to the region in which the event is hosted. Secondly, social impact metrics. These are best expressed in a non-monetised form and need to be applicable to the needs of the attendees and the host community. As such, these social impact measures need to be tailored to each event.

Measurement is the input that needs to be carefully considered in light of what the desired valuation approach is.

Positive impact can come in many forms and it will be beneficial for those who participate in an act of service and for those who receive it. Impact requires action, action provides momentum. Every time we make a decision that is supportive of a circular economy, that provides a benefit for a community or brings to light an issue that can be addressed with our event being held in that city, we have acted to create impact. Any host of an Olympic Games, Paralympics or Special Olympics for the last 50 years has worked at scale to prove this, often quite successfully and other events have followed suit. Choosing advocacy over bans is changing laws for a better human condition. Take the steps, act for good.

Somone once said if we don't measure it, it doesn't matter. With impact, we have an opportunity to show the value of doing positive actions. When you have momentum for positive actions backed by data, we have opportunities for a more educated and potentially less biased world order. If we don't invest in desiging and measuring impact, it won't happen. All the issues mentioned can come to fruition, or we can find ways to work with transparency, collaboration and integrity with the experts around the world in corporate, entrepreneurial and academic settings and use our ability to digitally collaborate and get the results and the opportunities for improvement to market faster. We have the ability, we can do this.
