This approach uses the widespread presence of smartphones to gather valuable structural data, improving the overall effectiveness and affordability of bridge maintenance and damage detection.

Remote monitoring and telemetry enable engineers to access sensor data from anywhere in the world. This is particularly valuable for structures in remote locations or harsh environments. In a remote mountain observatory project, we used satellite telemetry to collect data from sensors placed on weather stations and avalanche monitoring equipment.
