Tener un plan de estudios es fundamental. En primer lugar hay que definir el objetivo y la metodología. Saber hacia dónde y usando qué recursos. ?Cuál es la marca diferenciadora de tu formación con respecto a otras? ?Ense?as o sueltas contenidos sin importar si llegan? En ISDI tenemos claro que lo más importante es que los alumnos integren los nuevos conocimientos y capacidades y para ello hay un estudio previo importante por parte de la junta directiva, coordinadores de módulos y profesores.

2 Learner engagement and interaction

Online courses can be difficult for learners to stay engaged, motivated, and connected with others. To combat this, course design should focus on fostering learner engagement and interaction. This can be achieved by incorporating multimedia elements, offering opportunities for collaboration and communication, providing choices and personalization, creating authentic tasks, and providing support and guidance. Multimedia elements such as videos, audio, images, and animations can appeal to different learning styles and preferences. Learners should have the chance to collaborate with peers and instructors through discussion forums, group projects, peer review, or live sessions. Choices and personalization should be available for learners to select topics, pace, or formats that suit their interests and goals. Authentic tasks such as case studies, simulations, scenarios, or problem-solving activities can help relate the course to real-world situations and challenges. Lastly, providing support and guidance such as clear instructions, examples, rubrics, scaffolding, and feedback can help learners navigate the course and monitor their progress.

Engagement is by far the biggest issue I face when needing to conduct or course or seminar online. I have to either force participants to turn their cameras on (revealing blank stares and unhappy faces), or if not, I'm lecturing to a random alphabet of initials and headshots - without any idea who is engaged, present, or still awake. Aside from requiring cameras and peppering your lesson with interactive questions (which may or may not be conducive to your style), your best bet is to design the most appropriate and engaging content and deliver it in an efficient & creative way. Use a KaHoot game with some company swag as prizes? Offer a LinkedIn recommendation to whoever participates the most? etc. Creativity is they key to engagement.

Ensuring effective social interaction and collaboration among learners is often overlooked in online course design. Online learning is often fast, self-paced, asynchronous, and lonely. With so much interaction and mutual morale boosting happening on social media, it only applies by extension that the same cheer and crowd boost should be brought to online learning as well, albeit in a controlled manner. It may also address the issue of adoption, persistence, and completion as well as engagement to some extent. People engage with other people.
