An often-overlooked way to contribute to a circular economy is to embrace timeless fashion. As someone who has a clothing business, I've seen first-hand how fast fashion (cheaply made clothing that quickly goes out of style), contributes to over-consumption and waste. Timeless classic dresses promote the opposite behavior by encouraging people to buy fewer, but higher quality pieces that remain fashionable for longer periods. This reduced turnover of clothing helps ease the pressure on the environment caused by excessive production and disposal.

Yes, I totally pro circular economy, but nowadays I find myself more and more interested in promoting a better planning in any word field to have an impact in reduce consumption of greenhouse gas-emitting.

Circularity is a very exciting area for business. It is good for the environment as it reduces demand for natural resources, as well as waste. It is often makes financial sense as a business can generate value from waste, maybe also eliminating the cost of disposal. And input costs of new materials could well reduce too. It can also create a catalyst for innovation, exploring new opportunities for delivering value and new business models.

I speak about Impact Investing in my country of origin, Nigeria. This giant of Africa with its diverse population and pressing development and humanitarian issues is a fertile field for impact investing. But for this to happen, impact investment needs to move from the margins to the mainstream. Stakeholders should implement supportive regulatory policies. E.g. creating a clear legal framework and offering incentives like tax breaks or simplified registration and compliance processes for impact investors. We've seen the major economies of the world do this. For example, Triodos Bank only finances organizations that benefit people and the planet. This is with the full support of depositors who put their money where their heart is.

There is a need to broaden what impact investing values. What if the investment capital is protected and returned but the "returns" are in the impact that is made? Will this than allow the investee to focus on their initial mission and strive to be sustainable rather than be focused on increasing shareholder value/returns?

Doing good gives you more inner fulfilment. Impact investing and venture philanthropy are between classic investing (max. ROI, no impact) on the one side, and philanthropy (max. impact, no ROI) on the other side. Invest with the mindset of (scalable) impact first, paired with a business model = for purpose, for profit. Or donate/park/provide the capital with the expectation of an ROI around 1.00 within a decade. Measure the effective impact (because there is some green/rainbow washing in-between when people mix up investing with ESG and SDG). Enjoy having a positive impact on the planet and humanity.

Mainstreaming impact investing policy entails integrating impact investing principles and practices into the broader policy agenda. This integration creates an enabling environment that fosters collaboration, transparency, and innovation within the impact investing ecosystem. By doing so, policymakers can ensure that impact investing is not perceived as a niche activity but becomes an integral part of the overall investment landscape.

Social enterprises need to embrace impact measurement and reporting practices, align their operations with sustainable development goals, and actively seek impact investments. When these organizations integrate social and environmental considerations into their business strategies, they can attract impact investors and drive positive change through their core operations. Furthermore, enterprise support organizations play a critical role in providing transaction advisory services, investment readiness support, training, and matchmaking to social enterprises. They can facilitate partnerships between investors and enterprises, encourage knowledge sharing, and promote collaboration to grow the ecosystem for impact investments for businesses.

When third sector will be able to leverage enough funds to carry out their outcomes, the world will be more fair for everybody.

We have a huge number of global challenges to address - for example, rising inequality, biodiversity loss, the climate crisis. We all have a role to play - governments, businesses, investors, individuals. Businesses have a particularly powerful role given they’re financially sustainable, internationally scalable and often able to innovate faster than governments. Social entrepreneurs can embed impact into the heart of their business from the very beginning so it’s integral to the operating and business models. The better the business does commercially, the greater the impact it has. Elvis & Kresse or Change Please are great examples of this.

Diversity and Inclusion are subjects that has evolve quickly in last decade, while old topics like equity remain unachieved. Companies and NGOs are developing diversity policies to align with this trend, but seems to me that basic subjects like respect to human rights are still a huge social debt.

Digital Transformation is a gift that must be advocated by social impact champions, for lasting result. It must be embedded in every aspect of communication so that the little work that is done is not lost and we don't take 10 steps forward and 50 back.

We must move on from information management to knowledge management if we really want to take advantage of good practices and lessons learnt for good decision-making that will have an impact in our future as society.

While using the powerful role that AI is playing and will play in social impact work whether for research , outreach, project management, impact measurement, services and operations, organizations, public sector and the industry have to take responsibility on two key issues : - Gender digital divide : while AI's role continues to grow in our day to day , women around the world remain largely behind on digital education, literacy and access. There is no future without women being part of this gigantic digital transformation . 2. AI systems embedded with gender and racial bias can completely destroy the well intended goals of a social impact organization as it seeps in their data and hence the strategies. This risk has to be removed.

A 2015 study by Global Impact Investment Network (GIIN) shows that SMEs and social enterprises in Africa face roadblocks in impact investment ranging from demand to supply. On the demand side, many SMEs don't know the funding options available to them. They only know of commercial banks and informal lenders who demand exorbitant interests and collaterals from them. On the supply side, another GIIN study showed that while 77% of impact investors are located in developed economies, only 7% are live in Sub-Saharan Africa. The study also showed that only 11% of resources actually flow to this region, even though 43% of investors say they allocated resources to Africa. Hack: Africa is a fertile ground for impact investing.

One of biggest potential impacts on social impact and philanthropy that few people are talking about is the impending wealth transfer. This is the shift in finances from Baby Boomer to Gen X, Millennials and Gen Z. In the next few decades, it's expected that $70 trillion will be transferred, creating a new wave of younger, female and more diverse investors. This transfer is already underway with over 10,000 Baby Boomers turning 70 every day. It will have a transformative impact on our country and shape social impact for years to come. Nonprofits and corporations should take notice.

Place based impact which looks at the results of social impact initiatives in a place collectively, rather than trying to allocate outcomes and impacts to individual organisations. This requires significant co-operation between organisations and a commitment to do the right thing in terms of leaving a long-term impact for a community.
