\nExplainable recommender systems (XRS) are systems that provide personalized recommendations to users along with explanations of why and how the recommendations were generated. XRS can enhance user trust, satisfaction, and engagement, as well as facilitate user feedback and system improvement. However, XRS also face several gaps and limitations in their research and practice, which we will discuss in this article.
