There are different things already tested for such a prototype for autonomous vehicle driving, such as; Lane detection & tracking, SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping), Anomaly Detection with Traffic Sign and Signal Recognition. But to make it as seamless as possible it is important that it remains in trial and testing for the longest time possible, until it can be marketed as a consumer friendly product or service.
