One of the biggest misconceptions is that PR is mainly about events management, social media and influencer marketing, and I am here to be there bearer of bad news. That is not what public relations is all about; maybe these (events management, influencer marketing, social media, etc) can be other elements of PR but not the core elements. While those can act as extensions, they aren’t particularly the driving force of what we do. We build relationships with media, trust, credibility and reputation with other key stakeholders. We come up with captivating and compelling stories which resonate and engage with the media’s core audience, among other things.

It also needs a lot of planning, foresight, and awareness of industry trends and changes to always be proactive instead of reactive. I’ve seen firsthand from working with my company, how much goes on behind the scenes to achieve the often “perfect or glamourous” picture that’s the final product.
