La línea base de costos es el presupuesto aprobado del proyecto, que incluye todos los costos estimados de las actividades, recursos y contingencias, es importante porque sirve como punto de referencia para medir el desempe?o del proyecto, controlar los costos del proyecto y gestionar los cambios del mismo. El proceso de mantener la linea base se logra monitoreando los costos constantemente, compararlos y ajustarlos cuando sea necesario. La variación de costos es la diferencia entre los costos reales y los costos presupuestados. Al analizar las variaciones de costos, las empresas pueden identificar áreas en las que están por encima o por debajo del presupuesto y tomar decisiones informadas para mejorar la eficiencia de costos.
