While it is common to associate exceptional benefits with higher costs, there are instances where organizations have managed to offer holistic benefits despite budgetary constraints. It is about employee listening, leveraging data & analytics to identify trends & preferences and balancing digital & physical ecosystem. Cost is always a challenge when implementing employee benefits. The return has to be justified for the investment but to add to the complications, you can always give employees something but will encounter challenges if you have to take it away. Even if they never used it. Quite often i find when you calculate the employee turn over cost, recruitment times, quality of applicants and sickness that a well built EB plan actually saves considerably more than it costs.

The video acts as an evergreen asset, and takes the responsibility off the HR professional, or line manager. Depending on the size of employer, it is also handy to offer open table sessions. The benefit company has a drop-in style session every few months in which they can be on hand to talk about any challenges.

Return on Investment. Having a long list of benefits can be seen as great from a candidate and employee perspective but that needs to rationalised against ensuring that for every ￡/$/€ spent it is delivering the maximum impact. If a benefit is socially popular (ie people like seeing that it exists) but actually very few people enrol or utilise that benefit is it actually delivering a great return on investment - compared to its cost, unlikely. However, simply removing it can cause backlash if there is little or no effective communication as to why. Simply put it can be hard to establish true employee engagement if you rely solely on the “take-up” rate and some may simply feel that having the option is great - but they don’t need it atm.
