What are the best ways to use environmental health data for evaluating transportation policies?

Spotting who's already into data collection in environmental health is vital and what I would consider step one! Do your research! It saves your team time in respect to reinventing the wheel, sheds light on relationships, and uncovers data gaps or conflicts. Trustworthy data sets the stage for shaping transportation policies with specific goals, using indicators that really matter and are practical to collect and analyze!

Holding an experience of over 3 years in representing an intermediary transportation app and developing national regulations, I would like to share our use of environmental health data while promoting a sustainable and friendly environmental means of transportation. I would start by saying the reality is that transport companies need to take the first step in investing in analytical studies that aim to showcase the necessary data needed for an administration to make its assessment of the necessity and impact of the transportation module we are providing on the market. Due to the limited capacity and budget of the national administration, private companies should be involved in any study that reflects the reality of our society.

To develop a local or national strategy that encourages the means of eco-energy transportation methods, processing the data by experts is a key element in any local development strategy. But still, we face the question of who should hold this task and responsibility. The administration or the private companies? Data sharing has been long debated at an EU and national level, given the necessity to also process and analyze the data for an accurate report of a certain country. In this case, I strongly believe a public-private partnership can solve this issue through the mutual involvement of both sides.

I think I already anticipated this question by emphasizing the involvement of both public administration and the private sector to ensure the analysis and interpretation of data. Still, I believe that any study should be performed by an impartial and professional data analyst to obtain the most objective and straightforward answers. Only by using a proper and accurate analysis, we can achieve our objectives, whether we are talking about a company or a public institution.

Communicating to stakeholders or citizens it's the most important part of any strategic analysis. I believe that any result, even based on factual data, has no relevance among the public unless it's adopted by them. As a final step, the conclusions of any study or messages should be adapted to be communicated to the general public, with a focus on results, opportunities, and concrete proposals to preserve the natural resources provided by our environment through transportation policies.

Coming back to our main topic of how to best use environmental health data for evaluating transportation policies, I would take a step further and think about the utility of this analysis also upon infrastructure projects. The transportation industry is mostly connected and dependent upon the road infrastructure of a certain locality. That can both provide solutions or blockages in our goal of providing eco-friendly and sustainable transportation. As such, I strongly believe that any data gathered for transportation should also contribute to the strategic plan of modernizing and developing the road infrastructure of a country that allows any transportation service to operate in an eco-friendly environment.
