As a manager you must have a system for employees learning. You must track their learning progress every month. One parameter is how much time they spend for R&D base activities.

Yes, set clear and measureable targets. If possible then split tasks in multiple measurable steps for regular monitoring and directions.

Here are some best practices to achieve this: 1) Conduct regular performance reviews to assess individual and team analytical skills. 2) Provide constructive feedback based on objective metrics and observations. 3) Offer training sessions, workshops, and online courses focused on analytical skills. 4) Encourage team members to pursue certifications or further education in relevant analytical fields. 5) Monitor the quality and accuracy of analytical outputs produced by the team. 6) Recognize and celebrate achievements and milestones reached by the team.

My 3 rules when it comes to goal setting 1. Set stretch, aspirational goals with a long time horizon (12-18 months) in mind - a key enabler to sustainable performance, tailored capability building, and a cure to short term neurotic management 2. Goals are not engraved in stone, review based on what you learn and based on how the environment evolves : review / adjust (usually up) your targets every 6-9 months, ideally adjusting aim and direction (vs complete changes) 3. Make sure the measurement logic is well clear with people : if you can measure your own performance you have more space to autonomously experiment new behaviors and take ownership of your growth

Define how much you want to capture from this variation (target). Then, make an internal and external benchmark of the best performance of this indicator to guide the defined goal. It's important to have a tangible goal, as nothing is worse than an intangible goal. Monitor the evolution of the indicator at an appropriate frequency for the process.

Keeping it simple at the beginning is easier than investing time and effort in to a complicated tool. A simple Google sheet with a pivot may be all you need in terms of using a data driven tool. Just noting that you're tracking something (and sticking to it) will impact the team's performance.

This is pretty applicable to a lot of jobs and roles, but attaching a numerical value to each of these to track progression toward accomplishment. It also helps some people when they see that their "% Complete" gets closer and closer to "100%" for a task

Use quantitative data to measure progress. Track metrics related to the quality and efficiency of analytical work, such as time taken to analyze data, accuracy in decision-making, or the number of successful problem resolutions.

Data doesn't lie... well as long as you create the information and formulas to make sense. Using data-driven information is great to use for both corrective training and for giving accolades for a job well done. Using these tools consistently is going to be critical to show possible trends. To be able to show those trends is where you really gain traction to process where improvement may be needed.

I found that informal feedback is also very powerful, because it is not expected. It is easy to find something to praise a staff member for, even a small thing. It is important to realise the impact your words can have on your team members.

I think more organizations need to offer actual counseling. I've listened to conversations with the younger people, and they discuss private matters that, as aGen X'r we were told wasn't suitable for the workplace. I don't think the repression of my predecessors was correct, but we can no longer look at a person's output as the sole metric for success. The people coming into the workforce don't "put their noses to the grindstone" anymore. They need a holistic approach from leadership. Work/Life balance is a concern now.

I found it helpful to collaborate with team members by encouraging them to look for better ways, more efficient ways of completing existing tasks. I listened to their ideas and assisted them in turning those ideas into realities. Once a successful project was completed, I always gave credit where it was due and developed a star report which recognized that individual by internal email, other staff members would also respond in congratulation and encouragement on a job well done. Highly effective and motivating for the team.

A good example is always a good example no matter where or who it comes from. There are quite a few team building exercises that are actually fun to do in a group. Ask people what they consider to be a good example and ask them what their ideas are to fill in the blanks and encourage collaboration. Most people want to participate, they just need to feel like it includes them.

I have found the Team building event and group exercices to break the ice between the different employees of the organization and encouraged the collaboration among them.

In my experience, collaborating and learning from one another helps everyone. The more you learn or the more you can help others learn makes everyone’s job that much easier.

Encourage team to think out of the box and find out own ways to overcome challenges or improve a procedure and discuss them while adhering to business conduct policies and ethics.

I think of this as keeping the train on the tracks. We are all too busy at times and forget to smell the roses. Celebrate the small steps when you can. They lead to bigger steps.

It’s important to encourage an analytical mindset, otherwise you will train someone to accept ideas rather than challenge and improve them. Open and transparent communication is key, fostering ideation and providing an opportunity to consult and contribute to decisions promotes accountability and sanitises bias opinion.

Verbal praise goes a long way for an employee. Just acknowledging the great work and effort they have put forth will bring a smile. A quick note saying thank you for all you do is a simple as it gets with a big impact.

In addition to the previous six (6), one shall consider empowering all individuals within their control so that you are able to grow, nurture and develop latent skills. This also allows you to recognize where each individual as well as your entire team is at. New perspectives are engaged and the team has a view and appreciation for your decisions and decision making, better understanding and appreciation for other disciplines and an overall perspective on the bigger picture/ issues/ challenges. Everything changes (both good and bad) and it is growth and wins all around.

I think the best comment by far here is walking and talking. A great Manager will spend time learning about their employees strengths and weaknesses and then growing their strengths and mentoring their weaknesses. Realise the human being, not just the human doing. You can put out as many analytical tools and surveys as you like they will only be as good as the data that is entered. If it’s not entered honestly and is just ticked and flicked it’s complete waste of time.
