Always know your customer and industry type. Follow ABCD rule Application, Budget, competitor and Decision maker. Keep answer all e-mail on time. Fill all data completely in CRM. Don't loose contacts.

CRM is fundamental for the entire sales area, this includes sales engineers, for sure. This tool should be used to record opportunities and their commercial and technical details, with centralized information, the process becomes traceable and efficient throughout its cycle.

CRM isn't just for the AE's. If you can, get your admin to add in fields for Sales Engineers. Even if it's just associating your name and some notes against an opportunity, it gives you somewhere to track your view points and work done. Use reports to track your workload the same way an AE would review their pipeline.

Oftentimes when people think of prioritization as an SE they think of prioritizing accounts with a greater potential spend than another account. But priorities need to be thought of moreso from the perspective of which deals are closer to close as well as in terms of relationship development with your customers. A customer where the relationship is fragile is one where you will want to put more time and energy in otherwise the entire deal might collapse. Just don't put so much time in that one relationship that you begin to neglect other customers though.

As everything in life prioritization is an important aspect of a sales engineers life. You prioritize your opportunities, your projects, your reps. It’s impossible to try to do everything at once, prioritize and revisit your priority list ever week or month or quarter based on your situation.

Sales guy has to prioritise task. Not all opportunities are meant to be addressed. There are many opportunities, which should be converted and few which needs to be left out. Prioritise and pick and choose.

Believe in the process! But first, make sure you have the right process mapped, once it’s done, follow it. Consistency and discipline bring better results than talent and inspiration. Be lean! Have it on the blood, “shall this be made quicker? How many hours shall be invested?”, always pose questions to yourself and your team. Trust in your team! OneNote is my go to note taking and orgnization tool. Tabs for each customer or project. Pages organized by date of meeting, call or analysis. Pull in data from other sources, screen shots, spreadsheet, email text etc. Most useful in conference calls for active note taking. Afterwards, I go back, highlight, restate and reorganize. This distills to concrete actions, especially those urgent and important next steps. The more valuable an opportunity the more to view and re-view this information.
