What are the best ways to share your mobile UI prototype with clients?

Prototyping is invaluable in mobile design. I use tools like Figma to share interactive mockups with clients. It is an excellent platform for collaboration, allowing designers, engineers, and clients to work together seamlessly. With Figma, we iterate over designs easily and get immediate feedback. Sharing prototypes as links makes it simple for clients to engage and ensures our final UI meets user needs.

There are dozens of tool which can help us out here. Only thing to make sure is that the client views from their perspective not designers'. So make it easy for them to understand flows. This can be done with a nice presentation or using interactive mockups/designs which not just explain the app flow but also help in making requirements concrete and avoiding deviation in development from what was in client head in start.

We can use tools like Adobe XD or Figma links to share with clients to make it interactive and mock whole application UI.Figma is easy to use while developing the UI.

Using a prototyping tool is essential. We need to produce prototypes as cost-effectively as possible, and modern tools are available for this purpose. They are extremely useful for making flat mockups 'clickable' and offering a kind of 'alive' experience to the tester. Don't forget to provide the tester with clear guidelines. Instead of just sending the prototype and asking 'What do you think?', send the prototype with specific tasks, such as 'Add a product to your basket' or 'Delete your account'. Observe your tester's behavior through screen sharing or shadowing and/or use analytics for further insights.

Sharing your mobile UI prototype effectively with clients is crucial for obtaining feedback and ensuring alignment with their expectations. GIFs are good for short animations like slide-in, slide-out, click effects, etc. But it is recommended to stick to videos to experience the flow as you get to explain the features step by step and you can add audio too. You can also ask the client to move to a timestamp to see the specific feature.

If you like storytelling, videos your way, you can show whole journeys, explain design decisions, show how breaks are handled and different problems are simplified. Gifs can be used to present different states of different UI elements. As animation and transitions are not that smooth in gifts use it with caution.

Typically when you start to plan outlining how a UX will work you may start with a user flow script - e.g - someone can start her, click of X, get informational around y, make a decision and confirm Z. Try and be ad detailed as possible to start your base. Close your eyes and visualize the user on your screens, what they do. Almost you wanted to explain to a blind user how to use the solution . This level of detail will actually become great to use to build out Figma but also to use as training notes for all at the end and great transcript to use on a video that could be captioned for deaf and be available as a transcript for the blind to hear.

I have to "dis" this advice, as prototypes shared as gifs are simply bad quality so there's no point in sharing them for a final piece of design. And for the early mockups or wireframes either gif or video format simply removes the most important layer of interaction. With prototypes we usually want to test user's behaviour as well. My go-to method is definitely sharing Figma prototype links, and one exception to video / gifs is embedding them into Figma if they're a part of interactive content that we want to showcase.

I hate it when people send prototypes out as a single link in a boring email. This should be an exciting part of a mobile app project! So show that excitement to the client. Whenever we send out a mobile app prototype, we send it out with a Loom video explaining how to use the prototype, explaining our thought process on some UI/UX designs, and what features we particularly love of the design. Firebase App Tester is another great option that is relatively easy to setup on Android. One downside is you can’t get automatic updates, so setting up nightly builds to the Play Store in the internal, alpha, beta, or other testing tracks can offer a nice seamless experience. Additionally make sure you have a mechanism to accept feedback from your testers. Sometimes it will be built into the platforms, other times a simple asana form in the settings screen is enough.

Here I just want to point out that Focus on the Flow: Don't get bogged down in every minute detail. Use the presentation or prototype to tell a story about how users will experience the app. Showcase key features and functionality through interactive examples/use-cases. This will spin up the feedback loop faster as this brings clarity to all stakeholders.

Presentations as well is a great way to share UI prototypes with clients, you can give reasons with mockups highlight touchpoints, CTAs. Also you can add graphics and audio to enhance the narrative.

Prototyping tools are great, but have their own limitations. What works mostly is a detailed presentation, along with a prototype using a tool, and if the client has time and budget, a POC is the best approach to display the skills and features.

Accessibility: Ensure that the sharing method is accessible to all clients, considering any potential limitations or preferences. In my experience a small POC always, as it be showcase and test products for market fit and brings actual value to user, also it helps teams to identify pros and cons early

Specially, i love team viewer because it is very easy to understand what is our client talking about. some times we didn't understand our client and we take time ti understand it, so as per my personal experience i suggest to use team viewer to show your UI design for their project
