I find that the best solution is often within reach! For strategic communication, this means an authentic messenger is already part of the team. This person may be busy doing other things, but they may be able to add this to their plate. I have found that it works better to build the essential communications skillsets into the relevant team from the outset rather than to add them later. By making the communications role explicit from the start, the calculation of ROI on communication is part of the return on investment for the entire project. For a publicly-listed company, there is no project without communications and vice versa. There is lots more to say about all this, but I will briefly mention that "activity based costing" is helpful.
