Collaboration and support from stakeholders is a requirement before planning innovation strategies. You could have the best idea ever, but if none of your suppliers are interested or capable of implementing it, then it doesn't matter. Ein rechtzeitiger Prozess, um alle relevanten Stakeholder einzubinden ist nicht nur für die LCA sehr hilfreich sondern ist gleichzeitig auch ein Tool für das Beziehungsmanagement mit diesen Stakeholdern. Beginne ich einen bspw. einen Produktinnovationsprozess direkt mit einer integrierten LCA-Betrachtung kann es gelingen, ein deutlich nachhaltigeres Produkt direkt von Beginn an zu designen. Daher kommt es nicht darauf an, die LCA in den Phase zu bemühen sondern, st?ndig als ein Kern-Kriterium vor Augen zu haben.

The most important stage where you must use LCA methodology is the first stage of the innovation management process: the ideation. This because if you link from the beginning the LCA methodology, you’ll have its application more simply in the next stages.

Nachtr?glich eine LCA durchzuführen kann gut und wichtig sein, um Beispielsweise eine belastbare Basis für die eigenen Umweltauswirkungen zu haben. Auch für die Nachhaltigkeitskommunikation sind diese Daten unerl?sslich um Greenwashing zu vermeiden. Jedoch ist es dann meist zu sp?t noch Anpassungen am Product vorzunehmen und negative Aspekte k?nnen meist nicht mehr angefasst werden. Daher sollte die LCA unbedingt schon in der Entwicklungsphase eingebunden werden! Nur so kann ein nachhaltiges Produkt entwicklet werden. Und nur über im Kern nachhaltige Produkte kann man auch gute Nachhaltigkeitkommunikation ohne (legale) Risiken machen.

Meiner Erfahrung nach lohnt es sich, eine LCA alle zwei Jahre zumindest einem Update zu unterziehen. Also zu überprüfen, ob es relevante Ver?nderungen gab, die das Ergebniss beeinflussen.

Eine LCA-Betrachtung hilft auch dabei, über die eigene Systemgrenzen hinauszusehen und die Bedeutung von Externalit?ten besser einzusch?tzen. Wei? ich bspw. genau wo und wie meine Input-Ressourcen hergestellt werden, kann ich abw?gen ob die sowohl zum gedachten Lebenszyklus passen als auch zu meinen Ansprüchen an Nachhaltigkeit oder Menschenrechte. Wenn ich wei? was am Lebenszyklus passiert, kann ich mich entscheiden ob das Produkt thermisch verwertet wird, auf einer wilden Müllkippe oder im grauen Abfallmarkt oder evtl. doch im Recycling oder anderen Nutzungskontext Verwendung findet. Manchmal sind es die kleinen Stellhebel die den Unterschied machen, ob Nachhaltigkeit nur ein Lippenbekenntnis ist oder tats?chlich lebt.
