What I mean is that if you’re just starting out in a career, sometimes the experts seem so knowledgeable and so expert that it can be difficult for you to see the glide path to get there. If you instead also look at people who were where you are now 2-3 years ago, they will have relatable experiences and knowledge that seems easier to attain. They may not be an expert or know all the answers, but they know a few (and probably have some very salient and recent lessons learned).

I strongly believe the most relevant thing you must achieve to learn is to become an active listener. You can learn from everyone, not just from experts. If you have the chance, it is great to have a mentor who has more experience, but if you don't have that luck, exercise your listening skills, and you will start learning a bit from everyone.

No one has the complete knowledge. Everyone must to learn new things. Then only we can survive on our field. There are bunch of resources to learn Cyber Security. YouTube is our familiar expert who can teach new things, but we need to filter suitable content. The best platform to find expert in Cyber Security is Linkedin. Find experienced person and talk with them personally. So, we can learn new things.

In my experience, using online platforms like TryHackMe or hackthebox helps a it. Furthermore one can create their own homelab. Having a home lab allows you to experiment and break things in a safe environment and the knowledge you gain troubleshooting your lab and making things work is invaluable. I suggest starting with a simple virtualbox lab, with a few virtual machines and upgrading to a better hypervisor like proxmox and or VMware esxi. This will I’ll teach you a lot of computer basics including networking and some system administration tasks such as installing and troubleshooting operating systems. One can also deploy a personal lab in a VPS such as digital ocean or use cloud environments such as azure for a small fee.

Practice is the most important thing than a theoretical knowledge. There are lots of platforms available for Cyber Security practices. Tryhackme, Hackthebox and one of my favourite is Hacksplanning. Those platforms Create a simulation for real world scenarios and let us practice our skills with that. So, we can get practical knowledge using that.

One thing I have found useful is to attend free online courses and specific conferences both in-person and online. When it's logistically convenient, I prefer to attend conferences/workshops in person because these are very good occasions to increase my personal network with new contacts. ChatGPT can be really useful when we read a post or an article and don't understand an acronym or the content. We have the opportunity to ask ChatGPT to explain the content in a very simple way.

For those starting in the security field, the CSSP training is a great way to build a broad baseline of knowledge.
