Avant toute chose, il est indispensable d'établir des objectifs d'apprentissage mesurables et atteignable pour les élèves si l'on veut agir sur leurs performances. Pour ce faire, en France, nous avons les programmes définis par le Ministère de l'Education. Ce sont notre base, notre point de repère. A partir de cela, nous pouvons travailler afin de définir des micro objectifs à l'intérieur de nos séquences et séances d'apprentissage. Comme tout objectifs, ils doivent être clair, mesurable, atteignable, réaliste et défini dans le temps.

Ensuite, une fois les objectifs posés, il faut évaluer la progression de l'élève vers cet objectif bien évidemment. Pour cela, il faut mettre en place plusieurs formes d'évaluation complémentaire. On commence par une évaluation diagnostique. Cette évaluation nous permet de connaitre où en est l'élève par rapport à l'objectif à atteindre. (a t-il les prérequis par exemple) En suite, nous pouvons utiliser des évaluations formatives continues, pour suivre l'évolution et adapter les séances en fonction des besoins de l'élève. Enfin, l'évaluation sommative, plus formelle, va être réalisée à la fin de la période d'apprentissage pour vérifier si l'élève a atteint son objectif.

Bien entendu, ces évaluation ne seront performante que si les résultats sont traités pour ajuster la pratique de l'enseignant et les apprentissages. Pour mettre en exergue les lacunes d'apprentissage, il faudra alors mesurer la différence entre ce que l'élève sait (ou sait faire), et ce qu'il doit savoir (ou savoir faire). Cet écart, appelé lacune, est le point clé à retravailler avec l'élève sur les séances ultérieure. l'enseignant recommence ainsi, jusqu'à ce que toutes les lacunes soient comblées afin que l'élève atteigne sont objectif.

Un des problèmes souvent rencontré en classe, est que tous les élèves n'en sont pas au même stade et n'ont pas les mêmes lacunes. L'enseignant doit alors s'adapté et différencier sont enseignement. Evidemment, cela est plus difficile car la différenciation est une pratique très chronophage.

These gaps can arise due to various factors such as differences in prior knowledge and experiences, varying learning styles and preferences, personal challenges or distractions, gaps in foundational skills or understanding, inconsistent attendance or engagement, inadequate instructional strategies or resources, and external factors such as socio-economic status or family dynamics.
