What are the best ways to get a job in computer hardware without a degree?

Some of the ways to get: - Apply for sales position as it often does not require formal training or a degree. - Note that most jobs usually require experience, so if a sales position is not obtainable right away, keep an eye out for internships and "pay your dues" as they say. - Keep your tech information current. Most major manufacturers of computer hardware goes through revisions or generation changes a few times a year. New models outright replaces older hardware. - If possible test what you recommend. It is impossible to test every bit of tech on the market but make sure you are familiar with the vendor you choose to recommend to others. How are the performance and reliability? What is the warranty and returns like?

You don't have to get a full degree but it does help if you have completed some sort of hardware qualification to get yourself into an entry level role. You need to demonstrate that you can take things apart and put them back together again, also have an understanding of how the different components work together. Over 20 years ago I did a course at Computer Power. We built an NT network, did electronic testing, logic symbology, Unix, advanced batch files and advanced OS trouble shooting. Also built a PC from scratch. Computer Power put me in field site training at Service Plus where I became the onsite service engineer for several schools accross Auckland. Also try Comp Tia A+ combined with a home built PC and phone companys.

Be very informative about computers, their functions and abilities while also knowing which sector one is trying to embark on. It’s a lot in Computer and Hardware; also including software. So one has to keep track of all the new technologies, how they work and adapt to those which can be useful to businesses, general people and projects. There's a lot of way to learn computer hardware, only if you give time and effort to learn. Nothing is impossible.

One thing you learn quickly in this field (and life in general) is that there are always amazing people who know something you don't, and the good ones are dying to share their knowledge with you. There are a LOT of good ones. YouTube content creators are the fount of knowledge for the next generation of self-taught superstars. If you're passionate about the field, learn from other passionate people and apply your skills. Then pass it on to the next generation of learners when the opportunity presents itself.

Its never a bad thing to take some personal time and invest it in some online learning on your own. Many certifications can be done online and they are actually worth more than most degrees

I highly recommend online courses and YouTube videos as a source of training. Ultimately it's hands-on experience that is a major key. I gave a few chances to people who had great customer service and a strong work ethic but no formal education or years of experience and I haven't regretted it yet.

As a professional in the computer field for 30 years I never thought of computer hardware tech as a direction I would go to. I started off programming and did build my own computer as a hobby. 30 years fast forward I am adding hardware tech to my resume in addition to desktop, remote support and network tech. Hardware is the basis that all our systems run on and I found it beneficial to work with someone in the field to show me and educate me in many facets. I recently purchased my first fishwirefir a project requiring running cable through furniture. If you are serious in hardware I recommend reading, experimenting on your own equipment and watch videos. Unfortunately when I started there was no Internet or video sites like YouTube.

It is good to network to learn from the Professionals or experts. It's good to hear or learn from their experience. The best thing in networking is it could lead you to not just knowledge but work too. Let your network know you want to work in this field and eager to learn and gain experience.

Try attending some technology related events to see what current trends are. Who knows, you may meet your future boss there!

First off a 2 year degree & or some it based certifications are really essential ( I've both) but starting out probably an a+, network+. So if ware anything Microsoft

Find your passion and apply internship or entry level jobs. It's a good way to start and test the water, if it's really for you or not. At least with the internship, it is okay to make mistakes and learn from it.

Most regions of the world have some type of entry level tech job available. These jobs have high turnovers as they may not pay as good as mid level jobs, and are always tasked with remedial checklist style repairs and such. Don't let this discourage you from applying though! A foot in the door is the first step towards any level of involvement, and even an entry level position can evolve into management in time if you are willing to stay on track and learn.

Continuous learning, patience and be sharp. Be also good at documentation. Write down the solution or guides so you or others can benefit from it. In IT, it's not only hardware that needed update, as well as the people, us, in IT branch.

Its true what they say, knowledge is power. Technology changes so quickly and the field is so vast that its easy to get behind. Stay on the up and up even if its just reading articles from a tech magazine

This is also a way to show that you're hands-on and not afraid to get your hand dirty Try out some projects and document it nicely, publish it somewhere and gather feedbacks. Even if it's not successful you'll learn something along the journey.
