What are the best ways to gain Technical Analysis experience before starting your career?

I believe only reading theory material might help you in fundamental analysis but not in technical. You need to see live charts (available on various websites) and try to relate them with the current market scenario. The process can be to first understand the indicator, then view it on a live chart website & relate it to the future market moves to understand better. Start with single indicators & later combine with other tools to have an advanced flavour. Paper trading is a good way.

Reading books/blogs/articles and watching educational videos are good. Just be careful of consuming the right type of content. The mentor behind that content shouldn't be trying to sell you a course or give you signals of where to buy/sell. The mentor should show a deep understanding about what they're talking about and should have a couple years of experience trading. Also, avoid take advice from a trader who isn't where you want to be.

According to my previous experience, reading books was very helpful during my graduation year in terms of theoretical knowledge. However, I think that getting information from different experts experiences is closer to get a deep insight in what really matters to develop technical analysis skills.

The first book any budding technical analyst should read is John J Murphy - Technical Analysis of the Financial Markets published in 1999 and is widely considered as the Bible of TA.

I believe that if you want to do technical analysis, then for that you will have to first become a technical expert. You can become a technical expert only when you spend at least 8 to 10 years working in the field, only then you will have complete knowledge of the machines. Technical analysis is a very responsible job. It is possible to do, this in the true sense only when you have very detailed knowledge of that technology.

Go to the Society of technical analyst's to learn from the best technical analyst's in the world! They teach all the best technical concepts. Then practice them with a demo account. While reading market wizards, trading in the zone, psychology of money, reminiscences of a stock operator and listening to Steven Goldstein's alpha mind podcast. This journey will take years off your learning. Then unfortunately you have to make all the usual trader mistakes as they are needed to complete the process.

Get started on the CMT curriculum or something equivalent. I'm only familiar with the CMT track and it gave me a good foundation. However, that's just a start. You can only become a proficient technician if you learn to apply TA to actual markets. Understand TA isn't a crystal ball but a set of useful tools to assess markets and generate ideas for asymmetrical trades.

Seek a Mentor who actually trades. Read the books, take those classes, Apply the knowledge. The fastest way to learn is to Apply the knowledge as you receive it.

Taking courses and quizzes is good for mental health and intentional awareness of the knowledge to identify knowledge gap and what needs to be known for certain reasons because the truth is, no technical analyst can know it all in technical analysis. I take quizzes and courses in technical analysis to update my knowledge, learn more and become more aware.

Inner circle trader is the way, it is how the central banks operate, you won't regret by studying his content, where the normal video on YouTube is 10 minutes in duration, his core content (which I highly recommend) is 60 hours of duration with jam packed content.

Technical analysis is very interesting space because the one with the experience also make losses and the one who is just getting started with technical analysis. because technical analysis will give you some new experience on the daily basis so it is important to practice and back-tasting regularly. So to gain some experience in technical analysis there are many free websites which will let you use there technical tools for free and based on that you can try paper trading so that you can get the overall idea of how you're performing.

Use a demo account for example to practice how a strategy work. How the approach would have yielded in the market, how it is going to behave with market condition. However, the results on demo doesn't guarantee the outcome and the result of live account but at best, it prepares a technical analyst to see how it would be like when finally in the career.

Social media platforms like Telegram is one of the options to 'meet' virtually and learn from other experts in technical analysis, provided you find the right groups/channels; not the 'scammers'. However, this is not the only and ultimate way to learn about technical analysis and it is more to compliment any formal training/session/class.

Joining different forums online and offline would help to gain valuable insights in the industry. Have a mentor to guide you through before leaping in the career. Relate with others in the community. Ask questions and provide answers to what you think you know for corrections to come to you. Be respectful and learn from the technical analysts already in the career, that is how you learn.

You can network with people , exchange ideas , how do they read trends and all learn more about psychology and risk Management which most people ignore in the trading journey.

Interacting with like minded professionals from the industry and learning from their practical experiences will provide a solid understanding of the subject. I had myself joined Technical Analysis communities on Yahoo Groups at the start of my career. The learnings shared on such platforms helps you in a long way in your career. You also make lifelong friends, mentors and future colleagues from such forums.

Creating your portfolio is a step closer showing your intention about leaping in your career which is good. That helps you to practise what you have learnt. Follow through the procedure. Execution to outcome; measuring performance. Determining how profitable your strategy works and how much innovation and improvement you need to add to it to make it work better. Journal your activities as that will serve as a diary to inform you of what has worked and failed you in your practising so as to avoid or work more on them on live account.

There is nothing more effective than putting what is learned into practice, because if we only deal with theory, knowledge does not have a chance to be put into practice, therefore, it tends to be forgotten or relevant information is lost. There is nothing more powerful than practising a concept in real time (at least with a demo account) and learning from experience. The right combination of theory and practice + a journal are the best allies on the road to learning technical analysis.

Yes. Note down every trade whether it's a loss or a profit. Every trade should be documented and then you should review your trades twice in a week to learn from the experience. Note down your best trades and look for setup like them in the markets depending on the Market Structure. Your worst trades teaches you not to repeat the same mistake and thus helps in protecting your capital.

Create a portfolio, however depending on the type of trader you want to be. Technical analysis use will vary. Longer term investments, TA will be used for timing to gain best risk adjusted return. For shorter term and more frequent trading strategies momentum oscillators and seeking when conditions are overbought/ oversold will be more necessary. Important to journal for both styles and build a playbook for a specific type of trading style.

When I started my education in technical analysis in 1978 all charts of markets I covered were done by hand. The focus was more on trends and market action. Once the computer got involved there was market trend indicators that you could add to the chart to enhance analysis. Being old school I would suggest to those interested in technical analysis to start keeping a manual chart of your favorite market and switch to the computer when you gain experience. Learn how to identify trends, add a couple of moving averages you can use the computer to compute. Get a couple of good technical analysis books , classes online, and YouTube has a lot of content. Once you gain the confidence to want to trade then look at the psychology of trading

Do mock trading, there are many apps which allows this, however trade like it's real money. Also start with real money (small capital) once you have gained good knowledge of a few strategy.
