What are the best ways to gain experience working with robots?

I do recommend watching Youtube videos to familiarize yourself with the concepts and grasp the vocabulary and then try to jump into courses such as Coursera. My favorite right now is The construct sim, they simulate the whole robotics environment and give you bite sized gamified challenges to learn.

first identify what is the peak area you want to improve. describe your goal and then search for a course to close the gap. preferably to search for information based on a platform you already know

Once you have some basic concepts, I believe it is important to narrow the scope of what exactly you want to gain experience with. Robotics is a very broad and multidisciplinary field. Starting with the specific niece you want to tackle is crucial. Once this is defined then you can refine your research and navigate trough the different possible courses and simulators to be used for your journey.

Online courses are easier to reach the youth who having interested in the domains and accessing the simulators (software application) like MATLAB, RoboDk ,Blockly and CAD, SolidWorks etc... with help of Online Courses.

Join clubs you will find many people with similar interests and work with them if you don't have clubs in your school or college find any local clubs or online clubs. You have online forms with people of similar interest you can learn from each other and get to know new stuff

It is not so easy to find a community physically. If you enrolled in University your might be able to, otherwise search for online forums such as Reddit. But the gold tip here is to join the ROS community forum.
