Starting from basic requirements, one ideally should have a formal certification related to asset management or have short courses to have the basics right, then comes the guidance part and choosing a good mentor who can impart you with industry knowledge which is not available in the books. Thirdly would be your own research and analysis, having own perspective and knowledge building is as important as having a mentor this helps you having your own thought and analytical process. Fourth would be the most important i.e. being connected with a strong and diversified network of industry experts to share your thoughts ans absorb theirs.
