As I enter a new role, I learn how to do my job. Even from the very beginning, I look for ways to make my job easier, more efficient, better, etc. I ask questions to define parameters and boundaries. What parts are arbitrary? Where can change happen? I play the "new guy" card for months and that gives me a chance to effect change. Why don't we work with X department? What if we included so-and-so?
