It’s helpful to get your whole post production team talking as early as possible. Even before a shoot happens if feasible. Often extra costs and headaches are cause by simple workflow issues that can be avoided by bringing in key stakeholders early. A few great examples of this are to Encourage your camera team to see if your colorist can come to a camera test or view camera tests. Encourage your DIT or Media Management team to get on the phone with editorial and make sure workflows and needs are well defined. Make sure shooting LUTs are shared if needed (or even better budget time and money to create a custom shooting LUT) Make sure to have a VFX supervisor on set Bring your post production supervisor in early. All this helps.

If you don’t know the technical jargon, don’t try to fake it. Get in there and get your hands dirty by actually editing and trying to figure things out, and be honest about your capabilities. The worst thing you can do in post is try to fake it until you make it.
