What is the best way to describe technical translation experience in your CV?

Your résumé must be tailored for every position or project you would like to considered for. It can be chronological or highlight your previous work as well as detailed descriptions as well as accomplishments with numbers or final results. Though we must be careful as to respect any NDA that were signed and still are in effect. Ask permission if need be.

Make a list of important projects or accomplishments that you are proud of and have produced results for your client or company. For instance, I helped translate a software, etraining modules, entire websites, corporate communications and marketing content among many others. Due to confidentiality, I only give an overview of the scope of projects or nature of the content and if someone needs more information, I ask for permission before disclosing it.

I always say that words can be more effective if they can be translated into actions, that being said, the best way to showcase your translations skills or experience, rather than pointing them out on your CV alone, you can showcase them, either in a list, or adding them into the tasks you executed on your previous positions. You can also have a portfolio with an example of the documents you’ve been able to translate, so people can read a more tangible proof of your skills and work quality.

In order to describe my past projects I usually include the subject and the word count (optionally). You can always provide more details upon request.

I have translated so many CVs and cover letters over the years and have seen anything from 2 pages (my personal favorite) all the way to 10 pages (who things it's a good idea and has time to read them?) Keep it simple and stick to 2-3 max plus the cover letter. I normally refer them to my LinkedIn profile where all the details are. OCR system will possibly discard or ignore some CVs depending on their criteria, so keep it short and straight to the point. One thing is to impress on paper and another is to demonstrate results through your work.
