Does it feel like how you want it to be conveyed especially towards an audience (if you have one)? Trust me nothing hits harder than that emotional and mental impact. Always use various techniques like lighting, camera angles, color, backgrounds, and much more to your advantage. Never be afraid to have quiet moments either. I've personally learned as an independent animator that you must trust your writing and characters enough to stand on their own two feet like if they were your own children.
