Team building activities help when they enable the team to accomplish their task. Use activities that help them do the work, e.g., when I was asked to help a team, I had them develop their vision and values then use those to define how they'll work together. That made a lasting team because they accomplished something of value together.

If you want to supercharge your culture, shake everyone together, and align it with your company goals, a great suggestion is simply: A Hackathon! This great team-building activity opens up your technology and processes in a creative atmosphere while providing new insights and energy to your workplace. Here's a small concrete baseline to start: Set aside a Thursday and Friday for the hackathon. The more you trust your people, the more open-ended you should make the hackathon (ie. let people choose and drive the topics themselves.) Begin the kickoff on Thursday morning and allow 24 hours for experimentation. On Friday morning, there is a presentation round and everyone gets smarter together. Honor the top submissions and finally, have fun!
