Although Sap2000 would be suitable for non-linear analysis, CSI Perform 3D is specialised software, providing both time savings and accuracy for structures.

Depending on your analysis, loads and boundary conditions are very substantial in simulation trustability! Geometrical constraints and load should precisely be applied to make a realistic model! Moreover initial conditions are also crucial for transient one.

In general connection design is done by master series, Ram but in my opinion manual calculation is more accurate and customised than by doing software. For repetitive connections spread sheets are best suit and fast and easy. Each joint straining action can be extracted out from analysis done by software and by hand calculation and by first principle it can be done which is more suitable as per geometric perspective.

The best software to use for the analysis and design of structures is the one you know and understand best. If you understand how a software works and what methods it uses to solve for structures, you will know what inputs would provide the best outputs and will find yourself performing better on that software than you would on a more mainstream software that you may not fully understand.
