What are the best strategies for handling difficult feedback?

Sometimes we are not able to properly understand the inputs given , in that situation asking polite questions is not a bad idea. Important is that feedback giver should not feel that you are being defensive.

In my experience, I have gathered that the journey to being excellent or become an expert is to detach yourself from your work in terms of identity. This will foster and help you welcome the ability to habitual seek out learning experiences and embrace mistakes as the experiences that propel you forward. Therefore, having that in mind allows for you to be more receptive of challenging feedback. Being ready to hear and once again understand you’re on a journey to mastery. Lifelong learning equates to knowledgeable proficiency.

Feedback is always a touchy situation. I like to preface mine with "why" before I get into the "how". I have found that if you start by saying something positive such as "I'm telling you this because I see how talented you are" or "You have so much dedication" or something similar before you provide your observations. This is a lesson to be learned by both of you so frame it in the best possible light and be kind.

I agree to take a step back. Don’t react too quickly and ask for clarification. Ask for examples of how the subject matter could be handled differently. It could be a complete misunderstanding. Ask what a positive path forward would look like. Sometimes that stimulates a positive discussion and interaction for resolution. If it is irrational, you may want a third party to join the conversation.

I am aware of of weakness, so I analyse the feedback, if it is genuine and based on facts/incidents, then work on improving or correcting them.

Actually I think there are some constructive arguments that should be taken into consideration. There are healthy arguments, which are just tied to work relations in the sense that there is a disagreement regarding interpretation of results. These can be considered as constructive arguments that require to be considered as a feedback worth being researched on. But there shouldn't be any feelings associated, which will turn the argument to a personal thing and tip the balance to the negative side.

Make sure your answers are clear and constructive, and avoid arguments, blame, or excuses. Emphasize facts, solutions, and future actions. If you disagree, justify your point of view with evidence. Include specific questions while demonstrating openness and receptivity to feedback. This approach encourages ongoing feedback, helping to create a constructive and nurturing environment.

Feedbacks always help our self growth, there is nothing called Negative or difficult feedback, maybe we can call it constructive feedback, if you get constructive feedback from a more knowledgeable or experienced or Genuine person, work on it.. it will take you higher. And also it's very important from whom you are seeking feedback matters.

Generally seeking feedback works but There are few exceptions. When you are trying to create something unique or being very innovative then feedbacks can be counterproductive as others may not be as passionate or understanding about your endeavours.

I agree absolutely that feed back can help improve the organization performance and if properly delivered it will engender teamwork

The human entity is wired in a very wonderful way. More often than not, we know when we're about to receive a feedback and the level of difficulty of the feedback depends on the giver. This is where social awareness and relationship management come in handy. If you have not had first-hand experience of the giver of the feedback, I suggest you brace yourself. If it comes out sounding like you've been hit by a thunderbolt, you'd still be able to manage your response. However, if the feedback comes from a person who is emotionally intelligent then you'll heave a sigh of relief.
