Assessing your negotiation skills and identifying areas for improvement can be done with the Negotiation Skills Assessment Framework, developed by the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS). This framework consists of four dimensions: knowledge, process, behavior, and outcomes. Each dimension has indicators and levels to evaluate your performance and set goals for improvement. Knowledge measures your understanding of the negotiation context, objectives, parties, and issues, as well as your ability to research, analyze, and use relevant information and data. Process measures your ability to plan, execute, and review your negotiation process, as well as manage time, resources, risks, and stakeholders. Behavior measures your ability to communicate, influence, and collaborate with the other party, as well as demonstrate emotional intelligence, ethical standards, and cultural awareness. Outcomes measures your ability to achieve your negotiation objectives and deliver value for your organization, as well as evaluate your negotiation results and learn from your experience. You can use this framework to self-assess your negotiation skills, or to seek feedback from others, and develop an action plan to improve your skills.
