Profiling in itself isn’t what is important. Profiling is a technique to decide what to optimize. Optimizations can be done for various reasons, but it’s usually for a better end user experience (reducing time before interaction, improving framerate, reducing memory, battery or disk consumption, etc). In my experience: profiling tends too frequently to be done randomly by programmers who are tracking bugs (reported either by QA or users). Ideally teams should setup continuous monitoring or key indicators for performance of their live workloads. Also: don’t think only of optimizing the game. Monitor, profile and optimize daily workflows to reduce iteration time. But don’t waste any SWE time unless the optimization will yield benefits.

Profiling is a process that you do throughout your development circle, not just towards the end. Set your performance goals. Set your memory budget across the different areas of your game. Monitor closely the performance of your game.

You can use out of box solutions, for example tools from Jebrains. dotMemory or dotTrace Profile, it's really good insturments for profilling and analyze of your applicaiton

Write good code: readable and performant from the beginning do micro benchmark that prove the (algorithmic) optimizations have expected effects. Document non-algorithmic/ hardware optimization in comments as they might not hold true over time (change of dataset or hardware). Do multiple captures, if possible using real data, express resource usages using percentiles and optimize what you really care about (optimizing p50 might not be the same as optimizing p90). Ideally capture partial performance sample from 1% of real traffic/game sessions (or capture important metrics) to monitor that everything goes well in production. Don’t just rely on manual sampling from devs: automate.

In most cases, developers use the profiler that comes with their engine of choice. For me, that's the Godot Engine. Admittedly, Godot's Profiler is not as fleshed out as Unity's, but it gets the job done in my case. It allows me to identify bottlenecks and track performance throughout development. What I like the most is that you can use it through the Android Debug Bridge when developing for mobile devices.

I think, you should set prioritize, what is most important for you, like price, functional or UX/UI, then search for solution and tools, try it and decide if is good for you or not.
