This whole article is horrible. It completely misses that testing is a thinking activity, not a set of artifacts. The fact that it's AI-generated reflects on the sorry state of our craft in that it basically regurgitated a very strong "factory" mindset of reducing software testing to an assembly-line activity of churning out tons of test cases (based on yet more artifacts--user stories, acceptance criteria, functional specifications, oh my!), with "best practice" boilerplate of course. And then we can create another mountain of test scripts that automate our mountain of test cases.

I agree will all the points mentioned and that test cases should be based on use cases. Having said that, I think adding the test cases to the test suite should be a group decision. Complex scenarios are generally an extension of happy paths and adding more test cases doesn’t necessarily increase the coverage. In such situations, I feel that happy path scenarios should be omitted from the suite. If a firm uses ATDD, then test cases can be tagged as descriptions to the test scripts, cucumbers. And by doing so, reviewing and updating the suite will be easy. In my experience, I drafted my test cases in word, excel, JIRA, confluence, and feature files. What are a few other ways to enhance test case storage?

Test scripts completely depend on the nature, scope, and objective of testing. For say, behavioral-driven development uses cucumbers where the scripts are written in the IDE's serving as live documentation in the Given, When, And, Then format. Postman scripts are popular for RESTful API testing and use JSONs. Get and POST can be used to retrieve and update information. For performance/load testing, Postman scripts can be reused on Jmeter and the scalability can be customized. For Web UI testing, Selenium is popular for regression and functional tests. I use TestNG-Xpath scripts in Java and resue them for mobile UI testing using Appium.

The section on "test execution" seems to get the two previous (and bad) definitions confused in that it talks about executing both test scripts and test cases--if scripts automate the cases, wouldn't you just execute the scripts? But that's beside the point because good testing is a learning, exploring, experiential activity based on context, not the "plug and chug" mindless creation and execution of test cases. I'd strongly encourage testers who want to excel at their craft to read Michael Bolton's 12-part blog series "Breaking the Test Case Addiction", which provides some valuable antidotes to the tunnel vision expressed by this kind of article.
