True, but however optimal the simulation results may be, physical testing as in prototype testing is always needed. This is because no simulation can fully capture all the parameters and their effects.

I agree but “ standard” testing methods are not enough to fully cover all the conditions that the system can face. Honestly it is not easy to predict all the conditions since this will depend strongly on the application, but a good way is to challenge the system in extreme circumstances like high and low temperatures for long time. To do this with standard methods is not possible, so it is obvious that “test automation” will be necessary. A good way to test the behaviour of the hardware in high and low temperature for long periods of time, is to write a python script that control a temperature chamber, an oscilloscope and any further equipment, and to save the results of the test.
