Protect items with internal padding like bubble wrap or packing peanuts. Seal packages securely with strong tape. Clearly label packages with addresses and handling instructions. For fragile items, use "Fragile" stickers. Opt for eco-friendly materials when possible. Choose reliable shipping carriers and offer tracking options to customers. Periodically review and adjust packaging based on customer feedback and product safety records to ensure items arrive in perfect condition.

Using sensors in packing materials can serve several purposes, such as monitoring environmental conditions (like temperature, humidity, light exposure, Gas sensors,Moisture sensors), detecting shocks or impacts, and tracking the location of the package.

It's critical to do drop testing to avoid breakage. It's almost impossible to predict 100% if a box will properly protect a product without testing it. The best way is to make a mockup of the packing and conduct an appropriate drop test. We commonly use 1 meter as the distance for the drop. We also try 6 drops. One on each side of the carton. If this test passes in most cases you should not receive substantial damage claims. In addition FedEx and UPS both have services available to assist clients in drop testing packaging. Consider reaching out to them as well!

Know who your target market is and what appeals to them. Consider factors like age, gender, lifestyle, and preferences. Your packaging should protect the product and make it easy to use. Two major factors learned from my experience on this aspect are as follows: 1. Close Coordination with the Design Engineer to ensure to comprehend the critical business needs as far as customer requirements and expectations on the packaging to meet or exceed their minimum requirements of maintaining the good quality of the product. 2. Consider the unique characteristics and challenges of the supply chain Logistics in the Design especially the route, transport mode, dimension limitation considerations during loading to the vessel/aircraft and the durability/ quality of the packaging design to be undergone by the product during transport until it reaches the final destination per agreed incoterms.

On top of selecting the most cost effective and efficient shipping method, added cost value is to consider the route that will optimize the legal tax exemptions on certain regions/country. There are international laws that offer tax exemptions based on bilateral or regional/global trade agreements which can be optimized and therefore consider the shipping method that will take advantage of these cost reduction opportunities.

Take into account your customers' preferences and expectations regarding shipping. Offering multiple shipping options, such as standard, expedited, and express, allows customers to choose the option that best suits their needs. If you ship internationally, research carriers that offer efficient customs clearance, competitive rates, and reliable delivery services for international shipments. Balancing cost-effectiveness with customer expectations is crucial. Evaluate shipping rates and fees to ensure they align with your budget and customers' willingness to pay.

If the value of the total investment in a certain country would meet the minimum $ value requirements imposed by the central government, there are certain exemptions or VIP passes that are being granted such as in the case based on my experience for example where a long term $1B investment for a SEA country, certain priveleges extended to support the investors to facilitate and speed up the cost of doing business including a smooth and simplified importation of goods/sets of equipment to be used in the business construction operations.

WMS software like Fishbowl or SkuVault optimizes warehouse operations, including picking, packing, and shipping processes. equipment like automated box sizers, packing machines, and void-fill systems can automate the packaging process, reducing manual labor and ensuring consistency. services like SmartyStreets or EasyPost help ensure accurate delivery addresses, reducing the risk of shipping errors and returns.
