1 Define innovation

It is important to determine the "why" behind any project that you are embarking on. Innovation is typically thought of as a quick stroke of genius, but in reality, it is the process of many minds coming together to create a solution and an outcome to their "why". To echo Garr, once you have this "why" in place, you will be able to create actionable steps towards your solution and create the proper feedback loops to innovate sustainably.

Innovation ist ein Buzzword. Die rein wirtschaftliche Definition, von einer monetarisierbaren Invention ist dabei h?ufig nicht ausreichend. Viele Bereiche wie z.b. Social Innovation k?nnen dieser Definition nicht folgen. Zudem ist die Brauche, das Produkt sowie der Produktlebenszyklus ma?geblich, um innovatives Handeln zu definieren. Ein Abgleich des Innovationsbegriffes beim Kickoff neuer Initiativen führt erfahrungsgem?? zu einem recht gemischten Bild. Hilft aber enorm das Bestreben mit gleichem Fokus zu sch?rfen.

For me innovation in research is not about introducing something radical or groundbreaking. For research to be innovative, the aim should be to ask what is missing or what do we want to understand better and then to offer a view to address that deficiency.

2 Use multiple methods

Evaluating innovation is not a simple task, as innovation is often complex, uncertain, and context-dependent. Therefore, you need to use multiple methods and sources of evidence to capture the various dimensions and impacts of innovation. For example, you can combine quantitative methods, such as bibliometrics, patents, or surveys, with qualitative methods, such as interviews, case studies, or peer reviews, to assess the novelty, quality, relevance, and usefulness of your research outputs and outcomes. In my experience, the mixed-method research approach works better. that is combining quantitative and qualitative methods. I like to start by interviewing experts, drawing multiple hypotheses from the outcomes Then opening up for surveys with numerous customers. The final results are more concrete.

Die Methodik bestimmt zwar ma?geblich den Output, jedoch findet bereits ein Umdenken statt. Statt vermeintliches Wissen über Recherchen aufzubauen, hilft es enorm Engagement zu erzeugen. Das bedeutet Kunden bereits für Ideen mittels ihrer Daten, ihrem sicheren Commitment or sogar monet?r bezahlen zu lassen. Zudem zeigt sich zunehmend, das Mindset und Innovationsklima automatisch zur richtigen Methodologie führen kann. W?hrend eine gute Methode gefangen im Pragmatismus h?ufig keine disruptiven oder radikalen Innovationen hervorbringt.

It is always easy to say "there are no dumb ideas" but making people feel comfortable to ideate without boundaries can take form by establishing a culture of improv. By leaning into "Yes...and" during any ideation session, you can play out any idea to either lose traction or gain momentum as a team.

Von kleinen ggf. personalisierten (Merchandise-) Geschenken bis hin zu gelebter und ?ffentlicher Wertsch?tzung. Wie zum Beispiel Aush?nge oder News im Intranet mit ?InnovatorIn des Monats“ o. ?. Dabei geht es weniger um den Wert der Belohnung, sondern viel mehr um den erzeugten Stolz und die Genugtuung des Mitarbeiters.

Finally, you need to be willing to experiment and adapt your evaluation and reward practices for innovation, as innovation is a dynamic and evolving phenomenon. You need to be open to new ideas, methods, or opportunities, and test them in your research environment. You need to be flexible and responsive to the changing needs, expectations, and feedback of your research team and partners, and adjust your practices accordingly. You need to be reflective and critical, and monitor and review your practices regularly, and learn from your successes and failures. Hier kann ich nur spielen empfehlen. Ob Szenarien, Baukl?tze oder Lego Serious Play. Wer spielt regt die Fantasie an und verl?sst schnell die gewohnten Denkmuster. Mit dem Prototypen in der Ideation zu beginnen kann Sinn machen und Methoden wie Design Thinking best?tigen die Wirksamkeit.
