Can the bioprocess be scaled up. The next step is to investigate if the process is robust and scaleable. From tubes to flasks to benchtop up to pilot scale, demonstration scale and then industrial scale. The results of R&D is only worth a piece of paper if it is not scaleable. During this scale-up process Technoeconomics analysis and process modelling comes into play to determine if the process is economical. Coupled with process optimisation. Then Life Cycle Analysis for the carbon footprint. Without forgetting the market analysis and competitor landscaping.
