What are the best photo editing software for professional photographers?

For doing a rough edit, and making my selects, I use Photo Mechanic (PM). Depending on the computer, I can spin the scroll wheel 1 click to see the next image and PM will display a full screen image. And you can move very fast. I use a Classic Intellimouse 5 button mouse. Using Microsoft's mouse & keyboard center software, I select the "app-specific settings" to change what the buttons do when in PM. I set one of the side buttons to give an image a rating of 2, and the other side button to clear the setting. And the scroll button when depressed, deletes the image. For all other operations I use Bridge and Photoshop.

Bridge is the perfect option to select the final images to retouch, Capture One to develop the raw file and Photoshop for the rethouching and editing process.

Formerly, I used Adobe Photoshop Lightroom, but I have since moved to Capture One. It has many terrific features, but I like it best for its RAW processing capabilities. Can't be beat...

lightroom Classic, for me, is the best option for organizing and editing. fast and accurate. it has every prymery tool as well as advance features in one stop.

I mostly use Adobe Lightroom for file organisation and most of the editing, finishing off in Photoshop if necessary. The exception isms interiors work, where I am combining multiple exposures and using masking in Photoshop.

I definitely agree, however for me I use more than one set of tools, all depending on the image and what I’m looking to achieve visually. Basically: the more tools in your toolbox, the better your image potential has. Of course working on an iPad vs the full on computer does make a difference.

Both Lightroom and Photoshop have a plethora of tools and presets for creative enhancement and control. New features, especially AI are being added continually. I subscribe to the Adobe photography plan which I think is good value and means I can upgrade the programs as soon as they are available.

My favourite app has always been DxO Photolab, now V7. As a Fujifilm ambassador, I was forced to drop it, but then they began supporting the X-Trans sensor, so it is now my go-to. C1 does a brilliant job of converting RAW files, but it is min-bogglingly expensive and it's cataloguing system is very clunky. And there is always PhotoShop and LR, which although SAAS, are very capable.

I was using an old 2014 iMac until recently but Lightroom and Photoshop were becoming increasingly unusable and I couldn't upgrade to the latest versions as they weren't compatible with my operating system. The hard drive eventually failed and I took the plunge and bought an Apple silicone Mac mini M1. So much faster!

I think the best editing software is the one that works best for you. I use Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop because the two work so well together and with all of the new AI technology, it has made editing so much easier and faster. Now, I also have jumped on the Imagen train and I must say, it has cut my editing time in half! I love it because you can either add your own preset and let Imagen do the rest or, you can use one of the profile presets and then tweak your images to your liking! They're so many new editing software options out there but, I would say you have to choose one that works best for your needs.

I use GIMP as it's free but with some really useful features. Although I edit a lot, my use at the moment, doesn't justify the ongoing cost of subscription based packages such as Adobe. Is recommend trying a few free packages to see if they do what you need. Some can be quite sophisticated.
