Bootstrapping, if possible, is the way to go. It's not sexy. It won't win you fundraising, ego awards from your friends. Milestones might take longer to achieve BUT you'll be in the driver's seat.

Though not possible for many, do as much as you can to bootstrap and get to profitability. Pressure is great, but better to have it from your team and your customers vs. your VC investor! You know your business better than anyone.

Bootstrapping is important as when you yourself invest in the idea and built a MVP, the investors take you seriously compared to somebody who has taken seed investment. Try to run a beta round and get to your first 100 customers as soon as possible. This will certainly help you get nod from VC.

I generally advise against joining an accelerator unless you have to, unless they are a "name-brand" accelerator like Y-combinator. That has nothing to do with being posh about it. It is rather that most accelerators don't provide the value they claim to provide. They would lift some of the wins they have had. But those are often exceptions. Ask for the total success metrics instead and see what those say of their success rate. I understand that getting 50k over the line is an investment by an accelerator. But make sure the terms benefit you and that the support you receive is what it is claimed to be by asking alumni of the accelerator. Incubators are usually slightly better, however.
