In my opinion, DMAIC is a data-driven strategy used for improving processes, it stands for Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, &Control —5 phases that make up any process ? Define: VSM is v.useful to provide an overview of the entire process ? Measure: Process mapping is used to assess the activities /steps /actions done as part of the end to end process. Pareto chart is useful as well to analyze the frequency of problems or causes ? Analyze: RCA is great to uncover causes ? Improve: Kaizen is one of the best techniques to eliminate waste, improve productivity, &achieve process improvement ? Control: 5S control method will be effective in processes that got reengineered thru Kaizen as it focuses on standardization to improve efficiency

An example to share regarding the use of DMAIC for reducing defects in manufacturing is when I worked as a Mechanical Engineer Intern at L&T Hydrocarbon Engineering. During my internship, the goal was to find alternative materials for pipelines and valves which would be cost-effective and reliable. By reducing the number of materials, I was able to reduce costs and material defects caused due to the contact between two different materials and varied expansion and contraction under higher temperature and pressure.

From my experience at the Center for Carbon Negative Emissions and Manufacturing Innovations lab. Six Sigma played a major role on daily challenges. In simple terms majority of these methodologies follow the path of Measure Twice Cut Once Mindset. Overall, this leads to reduced resource consumption (because of the calculated and measured amount of raw materials), increasing process efficiency when the problem is initially defined which clearly differentiates between wants and needs further reducing cost of the project.

Six Sigma is often considered an Industrial practice. But Six Sigma is also a great tool for daily personal life practices. From my experience, I've been able to use Six Sigma in my personal life which aided in decision making further improving the efficiency of mundane tasks.
