I believe that cybersecurity, too, starts with information security and its basics. Too often I meet (during external audits) cybersecurity experts that lack basic information security essentials. I also believe that most famous hacks were largely related to information security basics.

On top of training platforms as a service…I strongly believe in creating customized training material for your company’s demographic. Not all companies have the resources to be able to create their own training, but the security team within the organization best understands the patterns they see in their business and specific threats they want to their employees to stay aware of. They can customize content covering the basics or foundational skills for all employees to have.

I believe it is important for technical specialists to help them understand the legal and regulatory requirements. Compliance is not their area of expertise, and listing requirements won’t help much. They need practical examples and real life stories to comprehend the materia. Not trying to undermine anyone, but as to my experience tech people hate documentation.

I believe, more emphasis should be put to social skills - openmindedness, critical thinking, strategic systems thinking,… We all have blindspots. That is why we need to build our teams of people of diverse expertise. Non-tech people often become reckless, thinking they are safe when IT security is set. Tech people often claim they are experts in IT security and cannot be fooled that easily. The most famous Nigerian fraudsters fooled brasilian bank to invest $170Mio in an imaginary airport. How can one fool a bank to give away such amount of money? Aren’t they the experts? We need to honor, not mock team members with diverse perspective and thinking skills. Learn about and use steelmanning instead of strawmanning in team collaboration.

Mesmo em meio as mudan?as e evolu??es que a seguran?a cibernética vem passando ao longo dos dias. Entender o processo, praticar a teoria e conduzir bons hábitos, reduz o risco, evita perdas e danos às institui??es. O aprendizado contínuo deve ser cada vez mais inserido na rotina organizacional, sempre atualizado e compartilhado entre os times.

If your team is large enough, rotate people through different areas of responsibility so they can learn not only the specifics of different roles but also how to better support them from other seats.

Employees should be aware of personal benefits of continuous learning. But also, in my experience, employees are often overloaded with dutues and task which do not allow them much free time to study. Employers should support them with dedicating specific time for learning. Also, my experience shows that we are fighting a neverending battle. Could that be a reason to (re)consider our strategies, and what tge real root causes and symptoms are? I welcome you to check my last article and leave your thoughts.
