Some are prodigies, others can sing in tune while others enjoy composing or performing. Students should be given different modalities in music classes to allow discovery of what they enjoy most and least.

Programs in the arts frequently take a back seat to sports and other popular school offerings. Administrator support is key to helping promote and drive interest. When a principal shows up to a band performance as if it were a football game or celebrates an artist's achievements as passionately as that of an athlete, through announcements, public praise, news articles and social media, then the Arts stand a chance at gaining momentum in the community and rounding out the educational offerings of the school. When the Arts are neglected by the central office or building leadership, it sends the signal that investment is not worth it and curriculum alignment efforts fall by the way side, along with student engagement.
