Adaptability of your application/service changes. Be ready to adapt the strategy as needed. In my past projects, there was a huge spike of data growth after the launch of the service within a year. The partitioning couldn't scale as per the design and had to re-design the architecture to scale to a model that supports 2-3 times of data growth. Continue to monitor the queries, performance and keep making improvements to better scale your application. Ensure proper alerting mechanisms are in place such as alerting if a query takes more than X secs.
