What are the benefits and drawbacks of using a travel app versus a travel agent for group trips?

Using a travel app for group trips offers convenience, cost savings, and customization. It allows easy booking, real-time updates, and access to reviews. However, it lacks personalized assistance, local expertise, and might be overwhelming. Travel agents provide tailored itineraries, support, and expertise but may be more expensive and less flexible. The choice depends on preferences and priorities.

While a travel app sounds like the easy option (you can download and start making plans right away, with no need to talk to anyone)....it in no way compares to working with a travel professional. A travel professional has contacts and connections that you don't have (many of whom only work with travel advisors and not the general public), and can also ask you open-ended questions that may uncover needs and desires you have for your trip that you may not think of on your own. An app simply isn't as intuitive as a professional travel advisor...not to mention, when you need to make a last-minute change or cancelation, or have a question, or want an expert to bounce ideas off of, no doubt reaching out to your travel advisor will always win out.

For those people who like to get their hands dirty planning their next trip then travel apps can certainly be a very helpful tool in getting the job done. Of course, there are caveats ... will the app let you plan a trip across a broad geographic range? Can you book your accommodations, travel and activities right from within the app? And can you plan an optimized route between your destinations? Another question to consider is, can the app personalize it's recommendations to each user and really dig down to the gems of a community? I would like to think that all of the above is possible ... with the right app.

Here I will use the word Travel consultant in place of Travel Agents. The reason behind that agent will just pass readymade things with his or her markup I can also compare this with Online portal or Application. Now, about Travel Consultant they will check your needs and taste even your pocket size then after they will suggest you a good option as a destination. Application or other platforms just gives you knowledge but they can't explain it with its drawback or experience which was earned by any travel consultant. Thanks ??

A travel advisor would actually provide more transparency than an app. The app can’t answer questions regarding the itinerary or pricing. It’s true a package price can’t be itemized but that’s no different than going to a restaurant where the meal comes with an entree and two or three sides. The chef isn’t going to break down the cost of each item.

If you are going to use a consultant, check for their experience in specifically what you are looking in to. There are many home-based agents that show many credentials, but have little experience. Also, if they charge added fees, that is usually a bad sign. If you are looking for a large (or large-ish) group trip, you might look for an actual group-focused company and/or DMC to manage the trip rather than an agent, as they will have significantly more experience and better contacts than a traditional agent.

Travel agents understand human behaviour better than any app. Group tours involve many people with different personalities, therefore it is very important to have someone who can look at it.

It's nice to have that human touch especially if changes need to be made or if something goes wrong you can explain the situation and a solution can be tailor made unlike apps where things are generic

Also, when something goes wrong, your travel agent will guide/assist you with obtaining a proper resolution to the issue! An app can not do that. When my clients, I answer my phone and text messages at all hours when needed!

In my overall experience travel agents understand more of what a person who considers travel wants because you are able to interact one on one and even engage with someone’s personality as opposed if an app would suggest places to visit. A tour or travel agent has vast knowledge of their field in real-time hence they can observe and guide you through your choice of travel destination.
