Components are tools that you can use to connect parts in the model. Components automate tasks and group objects so that Tekla Structures treats them as a single unit. You can save the properties of a component and use them in other projects. Components adapt to changes in the model, which means that Tekla Structures automatically modifies a component if you modify the parts it connects. When you copy or move objects, Tekla Structures automatically copies or moves all the associated components with the objects. There are two types of components in Tekla, one is system components that are already there in the software as soon as you successfully installed it, and the other one is custom components that you need to create by your own.

2 How to create components from scratch?

You can access the Component Editor from the Applications & Components Catalog, which is a window that shows all the available components in your model. To create a new component, you need to select the type of component you want to create, such as a connection or a detail, and then click on the New button. This will open the Component Editor, where you can draw the shapes, add the variables, and set the properties of your component.

Before diving into component creation, it's crucial to understand the types available. In Tekla Structure, there are 4 key custom components, 1?? Custom part : Creates a group of objects that may contain connections and details. Custom parts have the same position properties as beams have. 2?? Custom connection : Creates connection objects and connects the secondary parts to the main part. The main part may be continuous at the connection point. 3?? Custom detail : Creates detail objects and connects them to a single part at the location you picked. 4?? Custom seam : Creates seam objects and connects the parts along a line that you create by picking with two points. The parts are usually parallel.

3 How to modify existing components?

If you want to modify an existing component, you can either edit it directly in the model, or copy it to the Component Editor and make changes there. To edit a component in the model, you need to select it and then use the direct modification tools, such as handles, snaps, and dimensions, to adjust its geometry and attributes. To copy a component to the Component Editor, you need to select it and then use the Copy to Editor command from the Applications & Components Catalog. This will open the Component Editor with a copy of the selected component, where you can make changes and save it as a new component.

The challenges comes when we want a smart component! some times we know what we wanna do but the procedure in Tekla is really time consuming, while I thing there are some ways to improving the procedure.

Using component in other project: we can create a component once and using that for other project too. for example, if there is a component which it is used by designer in different project, it's could be enough to create the component once then input and use it in other project easily.
