1 Porosity and permeability models

2 Empirical models

They are simple and easy to apply, but they require a large and representative data set to calibrate and validate the model. Empirical models are often specific to a certain reservoir or region, and may not be applicable to other cases. 3 Analytical models

Analytical models are based on physical laws and equations that describe the flow of fluids in porous media. 5 Challenges and solutions

Formation Evaluation methods and challenges are not static, but dynamic and evolving. As reservoirs become more complex and unconventional, such as tight gas, shale oil, and coalbed methane, the methods and models must be adapted and improved to provide accurate and reliable estimates of porosity and permeability. To tackle these challenges, new logging tools and techniques must be developed to measure porosity and permeability in low-porosity, low-permeability, and fractured reservoirs. Additionally, multiple sources of data should be integrated, such as seismic, geologic, petrophysical, and production data to reduce uncertainty and increase resolution. Moreover, artificial intelligence and machine learning can be applied to enhance data analysis and model development. Finally, the models should be updated with dynamic data like pressure, temperature, and fluid composition to monitor reservoir changes and performance.
