Kerberos workflow: 1:User requests access to a service by providing credentials locally. 2:User’s system contacts authentication service (AS), (part of the KDC), and sends user’s ID, the service’s ID, and other information. 3:AS verifies user’s credentials in Kerberos database, and sends back a ticket granting ticket (TGT) and a session key to user’s system. 4:User’s system uses TGT and session key to request a service ticket from the ticket granting service (TGS), which is also part of KDC. 5:TGS checks validity of TGT and sends back a service ticket and another session key to user’s system. 6:User’s system uses the service ticket and the session key to access the service server, which verifies the service ticket and grants access to user.
